In this lesson, we’ll introduce a workout template to use each week. But just like with lifting weights, we’ll start small and work our way up to more difficult challenges.
For the first week starting to use the internet a little bit more again, we keep it simple. To begin with, we might do something like always work around other people and practice being on the computer with no restrictions for only 20 minutes to start, maybe even doing that around other people, too. And then it’s about gradually increasing that amount of time.
You can use the template below to plan a simple action plan for this week.
Approach this as a workout or learning to play a musical instrument, from scratch. Imagine you do not know how to use the internet. So 20 minutes of playing this new instrument or 20 minutes of exercising for the first time in your life is a great start!
What’s the skill you want to build? How can you practice that skill a little bit, successfully, each day this week? You can complete your practice, celebrate, and walk away. That’s not necessarily a metaphor, either. You can do the task and then put your phone down or get up from your computer and literally walk away from it.
For example, your workout plan this week, might look like this:
Don’t worry about the other sections of the template for now. We’ll explore them in the lessons for this week. For now it’s ok to keep things focused on simple actions and allow yourself several weeks to learn how to use technology again like it’s the first time.
At the start of each week, we’ll revisit a similar exercise to this.
